Transfer Process
Contact Us First
Before purchasing your firearm, contact us at (970) 344-7213 or email transfers@blackhawkltd.com to confirm we can accept your transfer.
Provide Our FFL Information
Give your seller our FFL information. We can email our FFL copy directly to the seller if needed.
Firearm Ships to Us
The seller ships the firearm to our location. We'll notify you when it arrives.
Complete Paperwork
Visit our location with valid ID to complete ATF Form 4473 and Colorado background check.
Background Check & Pickup
Once the background check is approved AND the mandatory 3-day waiting period has passed (whichever is longer), pay the transfer fee and take your firearm home. Colorado law requires a minimum 3-day wait from the start of the background check.

*Fees do not include state background check fee ($15 in Colorado)
Requirements
To complete a transfer, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old for long guns (rifles, shotguns) or 21 for handguns
- Be a Colorado resident with valid Colorado ID or provide proof of residency
- Bring valid government-issued photo ID (Driver's License, State ID, or Passport)
- Pass federal and state background checks
- Complete ATF Form 4473 accurately and honestly
- Not be prohibited from firearm ownership under federal or state law
Important Information
Storage Time
We hold transferred firearms for 30 days at no charge. After 30 days, a $5/day storage fee applies.
Appointment Recommended
While walk-ins are welcome, we recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure minimal wait time.
Prohibited Items
We cannot accept transfers of firearms prohibited by federal or Colorado state law.
Inspection
You may inspect the firearm before completing the transfer, but cannot handle it until paperwork is approved.
